Vista House at Crown Point

As a scenic drives go, the Historic Columbia River Highway is hard to beat. It seems to be beautiful any time of year. Today we explored the area from Troutdale to the Cascade Locks. As I looked across the 'Bridge of the Gods' into the mountain area of Washington (Mt. Adams & Mt. St. Helen), I was reminded of my PCT hike many years ago... from the Columbia River to near Mt. Ranier in the north). What an adventure back then.

Now... today's adventure, travelling along Historic Columbia River Highway, totally amazed me in a different way. Imagine that in 1918 this magnificent building was constructed... Vista House. (Check out this link.)
Vista House on the summit of the crest, is an imposing memorial to Oregon pioneers and a resting place for highway visitors- from 1918 until present day.
